Founded in the early 1930s, North Garden Restaurant
located at the foot of Yue Xiu Mountain, was rebuilt
in 1957 as the first garden restaurant featuring Chinese
yard in Guangzhou. In the garden there are not only
huge trees with luxuriant foliage and spreading branches,
but also bouquets of flowers and emerald bamboo groves.
Rearing pond, pavilions, towers and terrace halls on
the water divide the space. Private rooms and red bridge
joint the two long corridors. The pavilions are decorated
with colorful windows carved with the care and precision
of the sculptor. The whole garden has an antique flavor.
Presently the restaurant covers an area of 2014 square
meters and its seating capacity is 800.
Guests are attracted by the restaurant's fame. They
enjoy not only the elegant setting but also the consummate
skill of cooking featuring the flavor of south of the
Five Ridges. Mr. Guo Mo Ruo once wrote a poem for the
restaurant. It says, "drink morning tea at North
Garden, just like at home. Go out of the country and
come back to drink morning tea again."The great
artist, Mr. Liu Hai Su once had dinner at North Garden
Restaurant and wrote an inscription of "The flavor
lingers long in the mind."
