Da
Tong Restaurant was founded in 1938. After the Anti-Japanese
War, Mr. Tan Jie Nan, the king of teahouse, operated Da
Tong Restaurant. He promoted delicious dishes and refreshments,
famous in Guangdong and favored by warlords and merchant
princes. The officials of Kuomintang, including Sun Ke,
Song Zi Wen, Chen Guo Fu and Chen Li Fu, once had dinners
here.
In 1954, Da Tong Restaurant became a joint state-private
enterprise. The restaurant unceasingly improved cooking
skills of food and added many popular foods of different
grades. In addition, the restaurant was praised as A Flower
at the Riverside of Pearl River for its high-quality service.
Da Tong Restaurant often receives international guests
for Chinese Communist Party and the country. Premier Zhou
En Lai once treated the chairman of Soviet Union, Kim-il
sung, the chairman of People’s Republic of Korea, and Pham
Van Dong, the premier of Vietnam here. When chairman Mo
came to Guangzhou to inspect work, Da Tong Restaurant
sent the chef to cook.
Traditional dishes and refreshments created in the past
years have won many prizes in the food competitions.
